Thai Ponggal as it begins in the month of Thai. It is start to be in the festive mood in preparation of Thaipusam. It is celebration of the prosperity associated with harvest by thanking the rain, sun and the farm animals that have helped in the harvest. Ponggal is celebrated by the India state of Tamil Nadu as well as tamil worldwide. People of all religions celebrate the ponggal festival. This festival is originated in Tamil Nadu by saying "Thai Pirandhal Vazhi Pirakkum" and usually takes place January 12 to 15. Ponggal is the main day, falling on the first day of the Tamil month Thai and also known as Sarkarai Ponggal or Veetu Ponggal and celebrated by boiling rice with fresh milk and jaggery in new pots, which are later topped with brown sugar, cashew nuts and raisins early in the morning and allowing it to boil over the vessel."PONGGAL VALTUKKAL"
